Machinery and Vehicle Hazards
All machinery requires training from management before use.
There is a 30kph speed limit on farm.
Tractors - use only as trained and approved. Always check for birds nest. Be familiar with areas too dangerous, steep or soft to take tractor - refer to hazard map.
Utes - use within limits. This is the vehicle most likely to slide in wet conditions.
Quad bikes - use only has trained.
Two wheeler motorbikes - use only as trained.
Silage wagon
Don't climb inside while tractor is running as the moving floor, chains and spikes are a hazard.
Use a safety chain.
Turn tractor off before unjamming blockages.
Always have a runout option in case the wagon starts to slide.
Tip trailer - be aware of overhead wires when tipping. Don't tip if trailer is hooked to the quick hitch as it may not hold.
Mower - turn tractor off before working on mower or PTO. Only use if PTO is guarded. Check blades before use.
Front end loader - always check bucket/grab/fork is attached and locked before driving off. Ensure legal overhang or use flags when driving on road.
Side by Side - ensure you wear a helmet, wear a seat belt, and close the doors.
Digger - only trained operators are to use. Never stand within the swing radius and always communicate clearly with the operator if approaching. Be aware of the risk of holes collapsing.
Steam cleaner - highly hazardous due to hot water under high pressure powered by mains electricity and heated with diesel. Do not expose other people or yourself to the hot water stream. Be aware of hot water. Wear gloves and an apron or water proof pants either of which must be worn so that water cannot flow into your gumboots. Use an RCD if using with a generator or outdoors. Keep the electric cord on the opposite side from the wash area and keep it dry. Check electrical cord and hoses for faults before operating - water and electricity don't mix.
